I stood in the shower for what seemed like hours, trying to wash away what he had done to me. I was in pain. My entire body hurt- Marylize Biubwa

Sunday morning I sent Marylize a message, asking if I could feature her on the blog for the amazing work she has been doing as a gender equality/rights activist.

‘Sure!’ she said. Then she told me a little about what she is currently doing and what keeps her going.

‘Is there a personal reason why you are passionately involved in empowering girls?’ I asked.

‘Yes. I am a rape survivor. This, and the events that took place afterwards, changed my life forever. Maybe if I knew better and was empowered, my story would have been different. I want to do that for another girl. Educate and empower them.’
